I'm Engaged, now what?
You just got engaged and you’re feeling a bit overwhelmed. You’re excited, nervous and for the most part you don’t know what to do next. Here are the top 10 things you should do after you’ve said yes!
Take some time for you two. Let it soak in and enjoy the moment together. This only happens once so don’t worry about sharing the news just yet.
Call your parents and close family and friends. The last thing you want is for these people to find out the big news through social media. Meet up for coffee, call them on the phone or let them know with a cute gift. Either way, these are the people, who will most likely be helping you plan over the next year so it’s best they find out in person.
Get your ring sized. This might seems like an odd thing to do right away but unless your hubby or wifey-to-be knows your exact ring size you’re going to want some bling that fits before you show it off.
Take a ring selfie. Yes, we said it and you know you want to. Eventually you’ll want to share/brag about him/her popping the big question across your socials so why not find the perfect hand selfie pose, get that manicure and post away.
Figure out a wedding budget. The average 100 person wedding in Winnipeg costs around $30,000 so you’ll want to figure out how big or small you want your wedding to be.
Start a preliminary wedding guest list. Before you start researching wedding venues you’ll need an idea of how big or small of a space you need for your guests.
Find a wedding venue and choose a date. You might have the perfect date in mind but unless you’re booking 2-3 years in advance in Manitoba, your venue might not be available. Winter weddings are really beautiful in Manitoba and can often lead to more available dates for your chosen wedding vendors. There are pros and cons to off season weddings so choosing a date between November and May will increase the availability of your vendors and may bring the overall wedding cost down.
Find a photographer and/or videographer. Photographers also tend to book up 2-3 years in advance in Manitoba. If you’ve been eyeing a certain photographer reach out to them as soon as you start your venue viewings to ensure your date is also available with them.
Start looking at other wedding vendors. Wedding planners and Month of coordinators are a great resource for this if you don’t know where to begin. Caterers, florists, decor, hair/makeup, dress and suit options are only a few of the vendors you’ll want to start crossing off your list.
Celebrate! After all the main planning stages have been taken care of take some time to celebrate with those who are close to you. Throw a small (or large) engagement party. Get your engagement photos done and pop the bubbly. Enjoy the next year or two and soak in all the fun!
