Parks Canada
Capturing the rich history and natural beauty of Winnipeg’s iconic landmarks was the focus of our recent collaboration with Parks Canada. We had the privilege of working on several shoots to promote tourism at three of Winnipeg’s most significant historic sites: Lower Fort Garry National Historic Site, Riel House National Historic Site, and The Forks National Historic Site. Our goal was to bring these historical treasures to life through creative branding and lifestyle photography, blending the past with a fresh, modern perspective.
Lower Fort Garry National Historic Site: Stepping Back in Time
Lower Fort Garry is one of the best-preserved 19th-century forts in North America, and photographing this site was a journey through history. The shoot focused on showcasing the fort’s architecture, vibrant reenactments, and the serene beauty of its surrounding landscape. We wanted to emphasize both the historical significance and the immersive experience visitors can expect.
Our photography captured everything from costumed interpreters reenacting daily life in the 1800s to wide shots of the impressive stone walls and lush greenery that make Lower Fort Garry a must-see destination. Through creative branding photography, we highlighted the blend of education and entertainment that Parks Canada offers at this site, making history accessible and engaging for all ages.
Riel House National Historic Site: Honoring a Canadian Icon
Riel House, the family home of Métis leader Louis Riel, is a site that holds deep cultural and historical importance. Our work here aimed to reflect the emotional weight and significance of the location, while also promoting it as a place for reflection and learning.
The photography at Riel House focused on both the intimate details of the home and the broader cultural narrative it represents. By using lifestyle photography, we were able to show visitors engaging with the exhibits, walking the grounds, and connecting with the history of Louis Riel and the Métis people. The goal was to present Riel House as not just a historic site, but as a living monument to a pivotal figure in Canadian history.
The Forks National Historic Site: Where Winnipeg Comes Together
The Forks is a vibrant hub of culture, history, and community in the heart of Winnipeg. Our shoot here aimed to capture the lively atmosphere that makes The Forks a beloved gathering place for locals and tourists alike.
From the bustling markets to the peaceful riverside trails, our photography showcased the diversity of experiences available at The Forks. We also highlighted the site’s historical roots, emphasizing its significance as a meeting place for over 6,000 years. By blending lifestyle and creative branding photography, we were able to tell the story of The Forks as a dynamic space where history meets modern-day Winnipeg.
Bringing History to Life Through Photography
Our work with Parks Canada was not just about capturing images—it was about telling the stories of Winnipeg’s most treasured historic sites. Through our lens, we aimed to make history accessible, engaging, and relevant to today’s audiences. Whether it was the timeless beauty of Lower Fort Garry, the profound significance of Riel House, or the vibrant energy of The Forks, each site offered a unique opportunity to showcase the best of Winnipeg.
As a Winnipeg commercial photographer, we’re proud to have been part of this project, helping to promote tourism and preserve the rich cultural heritage of these incredible sites. Through creative branding photography and a focus on lifestyle imagery, we’ve helped Parks Canada bring these historic locations to life for a new generation of visitors.
