Where do we even start with this incredible styled shoot in Iceland? As a Winnipeg wedding photographer with a passion for destination weddings, this experience was one for the books. The weather was cold, a little wet, and the wind? Let’s just say it was something else! But we couldn’t get enough of the raw beauty of Iceland, especially when paired with those Icelandic Viking-inspired vibes that we adore so much.
Our couple, Hildi and Tryggvi, were an absolute dream to work with. Their connection was palpable, and they embraced the elements with the kind of adventurous spirit that makes destination wedding photography so rewarding.
Cliffside Romance Near Vik
We kicked off the session atop a steep cliff near Vik, Iceland, where the dramatic landscape set the tone for the entire shoot. The cliffs here are nothing short of jaw-dropping, with sweeping views of the Atlantic Ocean and the rugged coastline below. The wind whipped through Hildi’s hair as Tryggvi held her close, creating a scene straight out of a Viking saga. The overcast sky added to the moody, atmospheric feel that we were going for—a perfect match for the Viking-inspired theme.
Black Sand Beach and Sea Caves
After capturing some epic shots on the cliff, we made our way down to the famous black sand beach near Vik. This stretch of coastline is known for its striking black sand, towering basalt columns, and awe-inspiring sea caves. The contrast of the dark sand against the couple’s traditional attire was absolutely stunning. The rock formations that rise from the beach, known as Reynisdrangar, added an otherworldly element to the shoot.
As Hildi and Tryggvi walked hand in hand along the shoreline, the waves crashing in the background, it felt like time stood still. Our final stop was the iconic Skogafoss waterfall. By this point, the cold was starting to bite, but Hildi and Tryggvi kept warm by cuddling in front of the cascading water. Skogafoss is one of Iceland’s most famous waterfalls, and it’s easy to see why. The sheer power of the water tumbling down from the cliffs above is mesmerizing. As a Winnipeg wedding photographer, capturing such a raw, natural moment against this backdrop was an absolute highlight.
